Treasurer’s Report:

The LDC are still collecting £10.00 per month per performer and remains in a stable and secure financial position.

The LDC continuous to support the dental community:

-          Reimbursement Scheme for local NHS dental practices covering:

Nurses’ training, Hepatitis B vaccinations, Needlestick injuries, Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks and First Aid training.

-          BDA Events, which facilitates professional development and networking opportunities for local dentists.

-          Benevolent Fund, which provides essential support to dental professionals in need.

Chairman’s & Secretary’s (Amiras Chokshi) Report:

No significant developments or changes have been reported and although there have been some successes in recruiting, recruitment of Dentists remains a concern.

It was reported that UDA underperforming Dental Practices have received warnings for not meeting their targets. Once two breach notices are issued, the practice would have to renegotiate.

There has not been a British Dental Association (BDA) meeting for the summer yet.  Amiras will attend and report.

5.     Orthodontics – Francis Scriven:

There are currently no plans for recommissioning. Current Orthodontic contracts end March 2027. Hertfordshire submitted a document for retendering. Awaiting feedback.

Recruitment is difficult and remains a concern as practices are struggling to attract orthodontists and nursing staff.

Hospital waiting lists have increased and waiting times could be over 12 months for eg. Surgical extractions. Orthognathic surgery assessments have also increased up to a year.

Waiting lists from referral to initial appointment can be up to 3 years. Contributing factors for this include the Covid pandemic and an increase in population.

6.     Community Dental Services (CDS) – Curt McKenzie:

Waiting times for community services have increased.  Demand for services are very high as up to 30 new referrals per day are received. Community services have seen an increase in patients due to mental health. This results in less time for home visits and care home visits. It was noted that bariatric patients could be referred to CDS.

7.     Other Business:

The LDC will sponsor an event for Foundation Dentists on 9th of December 2025 in Cambridge.

8.     Next Meeting:

Wednesday 14th January 2026.
